Once all of the moss has been loosened via wire brushes, we blow the roof clean. Our methods require a bit more time, but they are very effective and do not damage shingles. ![]() Pressure washers tend to remove a substantial amount of granules, so we DO NOT use them to clean asphalt shingles. When asphalt shingles lose some, or most of their granules, they become much more prone to leaks. Then we installed a Modified Bitumen single ply roof system Once all the roof decking is good to go, we begin by installing one layer of modified glass base sheet with mechanical attachment. If found, any damaged plywood is removed at a small additional cost. We removed the three layers of roofing down to the cdx sheathing and inspect the roof decking for any water damage or dry rot. We then added new 1圆 pre-primed whitewood fascia around the entire building. When you buy Owens Corning roofing shingles, you can rest assured that our commitment to quality is of the highest importance. This was followed by adding new framing, fascia, and cdx plywood sheathing. We also added rafter tails, or outriggers, to the back corner of the building to help support the roof decking. We secured the new rafters with nails, and added hangers on their ends to support the load that they now help to support. Next, we added 2圆 rafters at 4' on center, and secured them to the undersized 2x4 rafters that were already in place. We began by removing the old "posts" which were made up of 2x4's and replaced them with new concrete post anchors, a 4x4 post, and 2x4 braces to tie them in to the supported beam above. Before we could start the roofing project, some structural repairs needed to be made. The building had three layers of roofing that had been added over the years, none of which held out the weather any longer. This garage was in need of some structural repairs, as well as a new roof. ![]()
